Legal Analysis / Friedmann lays his cards on the table
Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann's announcement that he is freezing a bill to bar the High Court of Justice from hearing certain types of cases is good news. From the days of the British Mandate until today, the legislator has always refrained from restricting the court's authority. Forbidding it to discuss security matters or issues with budgetary implications, as Friedmann originally proposed, would have required amending the Basic Law on the Judiciary.
